Naturopathic Acupunture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the gentle insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. This stimulation of these acupuncture points is believed to activate the body's natural healing processes and restore the balance of qi, or vital energy. When there is an imbalance between the yin (grounding, stillness) and yang (movement, expansion) aspects of qi, it can lead to various health issues. Acupuncture is a safe and effective complementary therapy that has been used for centuries to address a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.

What is Acupuncture Helpful For?

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I often use acupuncture alongside other therapies (nutrition, lifestyle medicine, nutraceuticals, etc) to treat many health conditions ranging from anxiety to chronic pain. Acupuncture can be used therapeutically in the treatment of:

  • infertility

  • menopausal symptoms

  • digestive issues

  • painful periods

  • headaches

  • and more.

Many patients feel very relaxed and report a deeper sleep on the night that they had their treatment.

Acupuncture is Holistic and Personalized

When deciding which specific acupuncture points to use on patients, I first take a comprehensive and detailed history that includes chief concerns, medical conditions or diagnoses, current lifestyle, and various other relevant factors. This thorough assessment allows me to choose the very best points tailored specifically for you, as an individual. Your treatment is thoughtfully designed to be completely personalized to meet your unique needs and health goals.

Is Acupuncture Safe During Pregnancy?

Acupuncture can be safely used to treat many pregnancy symptoms, such as nausea and anxiety, and to prepare for labour. With that being said, there are some acupuncture points and locations that are contraindicated in pregnancy as they may stimulate uterine contractions leading to the potential for preterm labour. It is important with acupuncture or dry needling that your provider is properly trained for prenatal treatments and avoids those points.
