10 years ago I was introduced to this dish as “Wife Saver”, an old fashioned name (not very politically correct) for a terribly delicious dish. We’ll just call it Breakfast saver and enjoy!
This is the perfect dish to prep on Christmas eve. Pop into the oven while the kiddos are opening presents and enjoy an hot and easy breakfast!
I usually butter my casserole dish before prep to prevent sticking during baking. Also, I don’t usually measure anything in advance, I fill the casserole dish and call it a day….
Stale Crusty bread - cut into bite sized chunks
Ham or other meat substance of your choice, cut into bite sized chunks
Shredded cheese - flavour of your choice…. I usually do marble
Eggs 6-9 at least…. whisk well. Add salt, pepper, garlic, dash of tabasco if that’s your thing….
Place bread, meat and cheese in bowl first, then add whisked eggs.
Let sit in fridge overnight.
Bake at 350F for 45 minutes with casserole lid on, take lid off for last 15 minutes.
Serve and enjoy (and feel like spouse of the year).
** I’ve addd different things over the years, grape tomatoes cut in two with fresh basil, different types of cheese… really the sky is the limit when coming up with combinations for this dish… it’s always good!
